Day 20 - Leaving West Bank to Canmore Alberta

Today we said good-bye to my brother Greg and his family and left West Bank, BC to continue our journey back to Ontario.

It was sad to say good-bye because we never know for sure when we’ll see them next. Especially with the kids because you know they’ll look a lot different the next time.

I was really looking forward to the drive back through Rogers Pass and Banff National Park but everything was so cloudy or smokey the pictures were pointless. In some parts you wouldn’t even have known there were humungous mountains just beyond.

In Revelstoke we saw some of the helicopters dropping water in the trees trying to stave off the fires.

Lillouet BC was on fire and as a result the wind carried a lot of smoke to the hills in West Bank. The sky the last few days in West Bank was obscured and landscape picture taking was pretty much pointless. There were still fires going on in parts of West Bank but I think they were pretty much under control.

We were ridiculously spoiled with hot sunny weather our whole entire stay in West Bank. Some days the weather was +40!!! The day we left it had cooled off considerably and they were calling for rain in the forecast and cooler temperatures for this week.

When we got to Canmore and I hopped out of the truck to help Mike direct the trailer into our campsite I just about froze! It was raining in Canmore Alberta and the temperature was only 9 degrees!!! Quite a shock to the system when you’re used to sun and +35 as the average temperature.

Hopefully we can drive into some warmer temperatures this week.
